IFM Process Sensors, IFM Photoelectric Sensors, IFM Incremental Encoders

The frequency response characteristics of an IFM sensor determine the frequency range of the measured signal, which must remain distortion-free within the allowable frequency range. In reality, the sensor's response has a certain delay, and a shorter delay is desirable.

The higher the frequency response of an IFM sensor, the wider the range of measurable signal frequencies.

In dynamic measurements, the response characteristics should be considered based on the signal's characteristics (steady-state, transient, random, etc.) to avoid excessive errors.

Linear Range

The linear range of an IFM sensor refers to the range within which the output is proportional to the input. Theoretically, within this range, the sensitivity remains constant. The wider the linear range of the sensor, the larger its measurement range and the better it guarantees measurement accuracy. When selecting a sensor, after determining the type, the first thing to consider is whether its measurement range meets the requirements.

However, in reality, no sensor can guarantee perfect linearity; its linearity is relative. When relatively low measurement accuracy is required, within a certain range, sensors with small nonlinear errors can be approximated as linear, which greatly simplifies the measurement process.

IFM Sensor Selection Principles

To perform a specific measurement, the first step is to consider which sensor principle to use. This requires analyzing multiple factors. Even when measuring the same physical quantity, there are various sensor principles available. Determining the most suitable principle depends on the characteristics of the measured quantity and the sensor's operating conditions, considering the following specific issues: measurement range; the sensor size requirements at the measurement location; whether the measurement method is contact or non-contact; the signal extraction method (wired or non-contact); the sensor's origin (domestic or imported), its price, or whether it needs to be developed in-house.

After considering these issues, the type of sensor to choose from can be determined, and then the specific performance specifications of the sensor can be considered.
