ATOS cartridge valves differ from ordinary hydraulic control valves. They can achieve flow rates up to 1000 L/min and diameters of 200–250 mm. The valve core has a simple structure, sensitive operation, and good sealing. Their function is relatively simple, mainly controlling the opening and closing of the hydraulic circuit. They are only effective when used in combination with ordinary hydraulic control valves to control the direction, pressure, and flow rate of the hydraulic fluid in the system.

The versatility of the valve orifice design of ATOS cartridge valves is crucial for mass production. For example, for a specific specification of cartridge valve, the orifice size is standardized for mass production. Furthermore, valves with different functions can use the same valve body size, such as check valves, cone valves, flow control valves, throttle valves, two-position solenoid valves, etc. If valves of the same size but different functions cannot use different valve bodies, the manufacturing cost of the valve block will inevitably increase, and the advantages of cartridge valves will no longer exist.

Cartridge Valve Unit Operating States: Let the pressures at ports A, B, and x be pA, pB, and px, respectively; the effective areas be AA, AB, and Ax, respectively; and the return spring force at the upper end of the valve core be Ft. When pxAx + Ft > pAAA + pBAB, the valve is closed; when pxAx + Ft ≤ pAAA + pBAB, the valve is open.

In actual operation, the force on the valve core is controlled by the oil flow method at port x.

When X returns to the oil tank, the valve is open;

When x is connected to the oil inlet, the valve is closed.

A valve that changes the oil flow pattern at an oil port is called a pilot valve.

Applications of Cartridge Valves

A three-way valve consists of two directional valve assemblies connected in parallel, forming one pressure port, one working port, and one return port. The number of operating states of a three-way cartridge valve depends on the number of operating positions of the pilot directional valve.

A four-way valve consists of two three-way valves connected in parallel.

The pilot valve can be a single three-position four-way directional valve (see animation).

The pilot valve can also be two two-position four-way directional valves or four two-position three-way directional valves (see animation).

The number of operating states of a four-way cartridge valve depends on the number of operating positions of the pilot directional valve.
