Fairchild pressure reducing valves are valves that adjust the inlet pressure to a desired outlet pressure and automatically maintain a stable outlet pressure using the energy of the medium itself.

Fairchild pressure reducing valves are specialized devices that automatically reduce pipeline operating pressure. They can reduce the high liquid pressure upstream of the valve to the required level downstream. The transmission medium here is primarily water. Pressure reducing valves are widely used in high-rise buildings, areas with excessively high water pressure in urban water supply networks, mines, and other applications to ensure that each water point in the water supply system receives appropriate service water pressure and flow.

Given that water leakage and waste are almost directly proportional to the water pressure in the water supply system, pressure reducing valves improve system operating conditions and have potential water-saving effects; statistics show that their water-saving effect is approximately 30%. There are many types of pressure reducing valves, with diaphragm type and internal spring piston type being the most common in the past.

The basic operating principle of the American Fairchild pressure reducing valve is to reduce water pressure by relying on the local resistance of the flow channel within the valve. The pressure drop range is automatically adjusted by the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet water on both sides of the diaphragm or piston connected to the valve disc.

The constant ratio pressure reducing principle utilizes the water pressure ratio control of the floating piston in the valve body. The pressure reduction ratio at the inlet and outlet ends is inversely proportional to the ratio of the piston area on the inlet and outlet sides. This type of pressure reducing valve operates smoothly without vibration, further improving the domestic pressure reducing valve manufacturing technology. Since there is no spring in the valve body, there is no concern about corrosion or metal fatigue failure. It has excellent sealing performance and does not leak, thus reducing both dynamic pressure (when water is flowing) and static pressure (when the flow rate is 0). In particular, it does not affect the water flow rate while reducing pressure. Pressure reducing valves are typically available in sizes from DN15 to DN100, with upstream and downstream working pressures of <1MPa and 0.1–0.5MPa respectively, and a pressure adjustment range error of ±5%–10%. They are general-purpose valves based on JB/T2203–1999 "Structural Length of Pressure Reducing Valves". Currently, most domestic pressure reducing valve manufacturers design and produce according to this standard, but this standard is not exhaustive, and the specifications are incomplete. For example, the maximum nominal diameter of a gas pressure reducing valve is DN500, and the maximum nominal diameter of a water pressure reducing valve is DN1000. Based on the specifications of the pressure reducing valves produced by manufacturers and the available data, the connection dimensions are not entirely uniform among manufacturers. For example, for a DN500 gas pressure reducing valve, it is recommended that the General Machinery Research Institute revise JB/T2203-1999 "Pressure Reducing Valve Structural Length". It is recommended that design institutes and users select according to the standard, and that pressure reducing valve manufacturers design and manufacture according to the standard.
