Italian Eltra encoders can be classified as follows:

1. Classification by the engraving method of the code disk

(1) Incremental type: This means that a pulse signal is emitted for every unit angle rotated (some also emit sine and cosine signals,

which are then subdivided and chopped to produce higher frequency pulses). Typically, there are A-phase, B-phase, and Z-phase outputs. A-phase and B-phase outputs are pulses with a 1/4 cycle delay between each other. The forward and reverse directions can be distinguished based on the delay relationship. Furthermore, the frequency can be multiplied by 2 or 4 by taking the rising and falling edges of A-phase and B-phase. Z-phase is a single-turn pulse, meaning one pulse is emitted per revolution. (2) Value type: For each revolution, a binary value corresponding to each reference angle is emitted. Multiple positions can be recorded and measured through an external recording device.

2. According to the signal output type, it is divided into: voltage output, open collector output, push-pull complementary output, and long-line drive output.

3. Classified by encoder mechanical installation form:

(1) Shaft type: Shaft type can be further divided into clamping flange type, synchronous flange type, and servo mounting type, etc.

(2) Bushing type: Bushing type can be further divided into semi-hollow type, fully hollow type, and large diameter type, etc.

4. According to the encoder working principle, it can be divided into: photoelectric type, magnetoelectric type, and contact brush type.

1. Encoder itself fault: This refers to the fault of the encoder's own components,

causing it to be unable to generate and output the correct waveform. In this case, the encoder needs to be replaced or its internal components repaired.

2. Encoder connection cable fault: This fault has a high probability of occurrence and is frequently encountered in maintenance. It should be the first factor to consider. The following are common issues:

1. Encoder cable open circuit, short circuit, or poor contact. Replace the cable or connector. Also check for loose cable securing, which could cause solder joint failure or open circuit. Tighten the cable in this case.

2. Encoder +5V power supply drop: This refers to a +5V power supply that is too low. It should not be lower than 4.75V. This is caused by a power supply failure or excessive resistance in the power transmission cable, leading to power loss. Repair the power supply or replace the cable.

3. Encoder battery voltage drop: This fault usually has a clear alarm message.

Replace the battery. If the reference point position memory is lost, a return-to-reference-point operation must be performed.

4. Encoder cable shield not connected or detached: This introduces interference signals, causing waveform instability and affecting communication accuracy. Ensure the shield is reliably soldered and grounded.

5. Loose encoder installation: This fault affects position control accuracy, causing position deviations during stopping and movement, and may even trigger a servo system overload alarm upon power-on. Pay special attention to this.

6. 7. Grating Contamination: This will reduce the signal output amplitude. The oil must be gently wiped away with a cotton ball dampened with grease.
