An Aventics cylinder is a cylindrical metal component that guides a piston in a linear reciprocating motion within the cylinder. Air in an engine cylinder converts thermal energy into mechanical energy through expansion; gas in a compressor cylinder is compressed by the piston, increasing its pressure.
Working Principle of Aventics Cylinders:
Aventics cylinders determine the thrust and pull forces on the piston rod based on the required working force. Therefore, when selecting a cylinder, the output force should have a slight margin. If the cylinder diameter is too small, the output force will be insufficient, and the cylinder will not function properly; however, if the cylinder diameter is too large, it will not only make the equipment bulky and costly, but also increase air consumption, resulting in energy waste. In fixture design, force-multiplying mechanisms should be used as much as possible to reduce the cylinder size.
Aventics cylinders use the following formula to calculate theoretical output force:
F: Theoretical cylinder output force (kgf)
F′: Output force at 85% efficiency (kgf) -- (F′=F×85%)
D: Cylinder diameter (mm)
P: Working pressure (kgf/cm²)
Example: What is the theoretical output force of a 340mm diameter cylinder at a working pressure of 3kgf/cm²? What is the theoretical output force?
Connecting P and D, and finding the points on F and F′, we get:
F=2800kgf; F′=2300kgf
When selecting the cylinder diameter in engineering design, it can be found in Table 1-1 based on the operating pressure and the magnitude of the theoretical thrust or pull force.
Example: A cylinder operates at a pressure of 5 kgf/cm², and its thrust upon extension is 132 kgf (cylinder efficiency is 85%). What cylinder diameter should be selected?
● From the cylinder's thrust of 132 kgf and efficiency of 85%, the theoretical thrust can be calculated as F = F′/85% = 155 (kgf).
● From the operating pressure of 5 kgf/cm² and the theoretical thrust, a cylinder with a diameter of 63 mm will meet the requirements. Ambient Temperature: Minimum/Maximum +5°C / +60°C
