The American SUN balancing valve is a special-function valve with quantitative measurement and regulation capabilities. During system commissioning, operators can adjust the balancing valve through a human-machine interface with a dedicated intelligent instrument to achieve hydraulic balance. It features excellent flow regulation characteristics, with a linear relationship between relative flow and relative opening. It provides precise valve opening indication, with a minimum reading of 1% of the full valve opening. It has a reliable opening lock memory device, allowing the valve to return to its original locked position after an opening change. It also has a shut-off function, eliminating the need for a separate shut-off valve.

The SUN balancing valve is a special-function valve. The valve itself is not special; the difference lies in its function and application. In certain industries, due to significant pressure or flow differences between different parts of a pipeline or container, valves are installed between the corresponding pipelines or containers to reduce or balance these differences. This is done to regulate the relative pressure balance on both sides, or to achieve flow balance through flow diversion. This type of valve is called a balancing valve.
Main Principle of the SUN Balancing Valve
The SUN balancing valve is a regulating valve with a special digital locking function.
The SUN balancing valve adopts a direct-flow valve body structure, providing better equal percentage flow characteristics. It can rationally distribute flow and effectively solve the problem of uneven room temperature in heating (air conditioning) systems. Simultaneously, it can accurately regulate pressure drop and flow to improve the liquid flow state in the pipeline system, achieving pipeline liquid balance and energy conservation. The valve is equipped with an opening degree indicator, an opening degree locking device, and a pressure measuring valve for flow measurement. By installing appropriate balancing valves on each branch and at the user inlet, and performing a one-time adjustment and locking using a dedicated intelligent instrument, the total water volume of the system can be controlled within a reasonable range, thus overcoming the unreasonable phenomenon of "large flow rate, small temperature difference." The balancing valve can be installed on either the supply or return pipe, but is generally installed on the return pipe, especially for high-temperature loops, where it is more convenient for adjustment. Supply (return) pipes with balancing valves installed do not require additional shut-off valves. Installing balancing valves in the piping system and adjusting them changes the ratio of the system's characteristic resistance coefficients to achieve consistency with design requirements. After successful system commissioning, there is no static hydraulic imbalance problem. When a successfully commissioned system operates under partial load, the flow rate in each branch pipe regulated by the balancing valve will automatically decrease proportionally when the total flow rate decreases, but the set flow ratio for each branch pipe remains unchanged.

The American SUN balancing valve is essentially a throttling element with variable local resistance. For incompressible fluids, the flow equation is: Q -- Flow rate through the balancing valve; ξ -- Resistance coefficient of the balancing valve; P1 -- Pressure before valve; P2 -- Pressure after valve; F -- Cross-sectional area of the balancing valve connection; ρ -- Fluid density. From the above equation, it can be seen that when F is constant (i.e., for a certain model of balancing valve), and the pressure drop across the valve P1-P2 remains unchanged, the flow rate Q is only affected by the resistance of the balancing valve. ξ increases (when the valve is closed), Q decreases; conversely, ξ decreases (when the valve is open), Q increases. The balancing valve adjusts the flow rate by changing the valve core opening to change the resistance coefficient. Applications of static balancing valves: Static balancing valves are complex to operate and require intelligent instruments for adjustment. Even with professional technicians, it is difficult to achieve a balanced state due to the coupling phenomenon of the flow rate. The method of determining valve opening using valve KV values and valve curves is based on static balancing valves, a commonly used older hydraulic balancing product suitable for systems with variable flow rates primarily driven by heat sources. However, during regulation, the flow rates of each user are coupled, making it difficult to truly balance the flow of a large number of heat users.
