The disadvantage of the SMC 2-position 5-way solenoid valve is that it has a minimum operating differential pressure requirement. Generally, the minimum operating differential pressure is 20 kPa. If installed in the most unfavorable circuit, the circulating water pump will need to increase its operating head by 2 meters. Therefore, it should be installed near the source and not at the far end. This type of flow control valve should not be installed if the user's distance from the heat source is greater than 80% of the heating radius. The control valve can automatically achieve system flow balance without an external power supply. It limits the flow by maintaining a constant pressure difference across the orifice plate (fixed orifice diameter), therefore, it can also be called a constant flow valve. The constant flow valve acts on the flow rate, locking the amount of water flowing through the valve, rather than balancing resistance. It can solve the dynamic imbalance problem of the system: to maintain the high-efficiency operation of individual chillers, boilers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, etc., it is necessary to control the flow of these devices to be fixed at the rated value; from the perspective of the system end, in order to avoid mutual interference of dynamic adjustments, it is also necessary to limit the flow at the end device or branch.
The internal leakage of the SMC 2-position 5-way solenoid valve causes the control chamber to depressurize before the hydraulic check valve can close, affecting its locking accuracy. However, the selection of the H-type center position function should be very cautious, because when the hydraulic pump flows through the drain pipe at a large flow rate, if it encounters a long and narrow drain pipe or partial blockage, or other reasons causing local frictional resistance (such as the presence of a low-pressure oil filter or many pipe joints), the control pressure on the control piston may be too high, causing the hydraulic check valve to fail to close and the hydraulic cylinder to malfunction. The Y-type center position function will not have this result. The hydraulic check valve is only suitable for situations where the reverse oil flow is a closed cavity, such as a cavity of a hydraulic cylinder or an accumulator. The pressure in this closed cavity only needs to be released with a very small flow to relieve the pressure. Reverse oil flow is generally not connected to a continuously supplied hydraulic source. This is because when the unloading valve core opens, the flow area is very small and the oil velocity is very high, resulting in significant pressure loss. Furthermore, the continuous oil supply from the hydraulic source at this time will prevent the reverse pressure from decreasing, requiring a large hydraulic control pressure to open the main valve core of the hydraulically controlled check valve.
The SMC 2-position 5-way solenoid valve operates with variable resistance using a compensation method. It has two valve discs: one is an adjusting disc used to compensate for the pressure difference across the throttling orifice, thus it can be called a "compensating variable resistance regulating valve." Its principle is: using the pressure difference across the throttling orifice as the driving force for the compensation action, it compensates for and maintains the stability of the pressure difference across the throttling orifice, thereby maintaining a constant flow rate. Adjusting the size of the throttling orifice allows for different flow rates. Therefore, it can both regulate flow rate and maintain a constant flow rate when the system's hydraulic conditions change. Within the system, it can maintain a constant flow rate in each branch, achieving balanced flow distribution, and can also change and adjust the flow rate in each branch at any time, achieving dynamic balance. If flow rate is adjusted twice a year, once during the transition from early winter to severe winter and again during the transition from severe winter to late winter, an energy-saving operation mode of "phased flow rate quality regulation" can be achieved. While constant flow control valves are simple and convenient to adjust, for larger systems, adjusting twice a year remains a burden. Furthermore, the high price of constant flow control valves, although recouped within the year, still places a significant psychological burden on users.
