The German Rexroth amplifier is actually an analog Fourier transform. The output of the lock-in amplifier is a DC voltage, proportional to the amplitude of the input signal at a specific frequency (the parameter input frequency). Other frequency components of the input signal will not contribute to the output voltage. Two sinusoidal signals, both 1Hz in frequency and 90 degrees out of phase, multiplied together by a multiplier, result in a sinusoidal signal with DC bias.
