Founded over fifty years ago, MOOG initially designed and supplied aircraft and components. The company's history originates from its founder, William C. Moog, an inventor, entrepreneur, and visionary. In 1951, Bill Moog successfully developed the electro-hydraulic servo valve, a device that converts weak electrical pulses into precise and powerful motion. In July 1951, Bill Moog, the Art brothers, and Lugheye rented a corner of the abandoned Proner Airport in East Aurora, New York, and founded the MOOG Valve Company.
