HIRSCHMANN Switching Electronics Co., Ltd., located in Neckartenzlingen, Germany, offers a range of products including mobile transmission and reception systems using analog and digital broadcast television transmission technologies, enterprise and industrial network solutions, and fieldbus systems. Founded in 1924 by Richard Hirschmann, the father of the "banana plug," the company has grown from a one-man operation into a global leader in modern communications over 81 years.
A HIRSCHMANN switch is a device that performs information exchange in a communication system.
In computer network systems, the concept of switching represents an improvement over shared operating modes. A hub is a type of shared device. The hub itself cannot identify the destination address. When host A on the same local area network transmits data to host B, the data packet is broadcast on a network based on a hub architecture. Each terminal determines whether to receive the packet by verifying the address information in the packet header. In this operating mode, only one set of data frames can be transmitted on the network at a time. If a collision occurs, a retry is required. This method is called shared network bandwidth.
HIRSCHMANN Switch Faults
To improve the efficiency of LAN operation and maintenance, we need to accumulate experience in troubleshooting various switch faults so that we can quickly resolve switch problems when they occur.
1. Solving the Trouble of Reconfiguring VLANs
When managing and maintaining a unit's LAN, if the cascading port connected to a regular switch changes, the VLANs previously configured in that switch system often become ineffective. Does this mean we have to reconfigure VLANs? If so, the network maintenance workload is obviously enormous. Actually, after changing the cascading port of a regular switch, we only need to access the switch's backend management interface and modify the working mode of the cascading port to allow all VLAN access, thus avoiding the need to reconfigure VLANs. Now, using a local area network (LAN) of a certain organization as an example, we will explain in detail the specific setup steps for a switch:
