The operating mode of Fairchild control valves in the United States is only available when a pneumatic actuator is selected. Its operating mode is formed by combining the direct and reverse action of the actuator and the direct and reverse action of the valve. There are four combinations: direct-direct (air-to-close), direct-reverse (air-to-open), reverse-direct (air-to-open), and reverse-reverse (air-to-close). The control valve operating modes formed by these four combinations are either air-to-open or air-to-close.

Fairchild Control Valve Basic Information

A control valve, also known as a regulating valve, receives control signals from a control unit and, using power, changes the flow rate of fluid. Control valves generally consist of an actuator and a valve body. Based on the power source of the actuator, control valves can be classified into pneumatic, electric, and hydraulic control valves. Additionally, based on their function and characteristics, they can be classified into linear, equal percentage, and parabolic characteristics.

Fairchild control valves offer a wide variety of body types, commonly including single-seat, double-seat, angle, diaphragm, low-flow, three-way, eccentric rotary, butterfly, sleeve, and ball valves.

When making a specific selection, the following considerations should be taken into account:

(1) Valve core shape and structure

This is mainly based on the selected flow characteristics and unbalanced forces.

(2) Wear resistance

When the fluid medium is a suspension containing a high concentration of abrasive particles, the internal material of the valve must be hard.

(3) Corrosion resistance

Due to the corrosive nature of the medium, valves with simple structures should be selected as much as possible.

(4) Temperature and pressure of the medium

When the temperature and pressure of the medium are high and fluctuate greatly, valves whose core and seat materials are less affected by temperature and pressure changes should be selected. When the temperature is ≥250℃, a radiator should be added.

(5) Prevention of flashing and cavitation

Flashing and cavitation only occur in liquid media. In actual production processes, flashing and cavitation will generate vibration and noise, shortening the service life of the valve. Therefore, when selecting valves, flashing and cavitation should be prevented.

Basic Introduction

In the automation control of modern industrial plants, control valves play a crucial role, as the production of these plants depends on the proper distribution and control of flowing media. These controls, whether for energy exchange, pressure reduction, or simply container feeding, require certain final actions to be completed.

Control valves act as variable resistance in pipelines. They alter the turbulence of process fluids or, in laminar flow conditions, provide a pressure drop caused by changes in valve resistance or "friction." This pressure reduction process is often referred to as "throttling." For gases, it approaches an isothermal adiabatic state, with deviations depending on the degree of non-ideality (joules) of the gas. In the case of liquids, pressure is consumed by turbulence or viscous friction, both of which convert pressure into heat energy, resulting in a slight increase in temperature. A typical control loop consists of three main parts. The first part is the sensing element, usually a transmitter. This is a device used to measure the controlled process parameters, such as pressure, level, or temperature. The transmitter's output is sent to the regulating instrument—the controller—which determines and measures the deviation between the given or desired value and the actual value of the process parameter, sending correction signals one after another to the final control element—the regulating valve. The valve changes the fluid flow rate, bringing the process parameter to the desired value. The regulating valve belongs to the control valve family and its main function is to regulate parameters such as pressure, flow rate, and temperature of the medium; it is the final control element in the process loop.
