Eltra (Italy)
Founded in 1985, Eltra specializes in the development and production of encoders and sensors. Eltra has over 20 years of experience in sensor technology, particularly in the encoder industry. Currently, it produces up to 15,000 sensor models and serves 3,000 customers worldwide. A comprehensive product range is Eltra's greatest strength, including standard products such as linear encoders and absolute encoders; special products such as wire and magnetic encoders, absolute bus systems, metric encoders, electronic handwheels, intrinsically safe explosion-proof encoders; as well as photoelectric and inductive proximity switches, oscillating sensors, linear potentiometers, and related accessories.
All Eltra products undergo rigorous testing under strict conditions for extended periods, ensuring strict quality control. It has passed CE, ISO9001:200040UL/CSA40ATEX certifications.
Eltra's sales network spans the globe, providing our customers with fast, reliable, and high-quality pre-sales and after-sales service.
Eltra encoders are devices that encode signals (such as bitstreams) or data, converting them into a signal form that can be used for communication, transmission, and storage. Encoders convert angular or linear displacement into electrical signals; the former is called a code disk, and the latter a code scale. Encoders can be divided into contact and non-contact types according to their readout method; and into incremental and absolute types according to their working principle. Incremental encoders convert displacement into periodic electrical signals, then convert these signals into counting pulses, using the number of pulses to represent the magnitude of the displacement. Each position of an absolute encoder corresponds to a specific digital code; therefore, its reading depends only on the starting and ending positions of the measurement, and is independent of the intermediate measurement process.
Eltra encoders have a high application rate in the OEM market, mainly used in machine tools, elevators, servo motor components, textile machinery, packaging machinery, printing machinery, and hoisting machinery industries. In 2010, the rapid growth of China's OEM market drove the rapid growth of the encoder market, which reached 1.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 42.9%.
From an industry perspective, elevators, machine tools, and servo motors are the key application areas for encoders, accounting for 53%* of the overall application market. The textile machinery, packaging machinery, and printing machinery sectors currently have smaller market share; encoders generally do not directly enter these three industries, and competition among encoder manufacturers is mainly concentrated in the motor manufacturing segment, supplying servo motors to these machinery industries. The lifting machinery sector also has a relatively small market share, accounting for only 4%-5%. In project-based industries such as metallurgy and electronics, the application rate of encoders is currently low, accounting for only 14%*. In addition, encoders also have some applications in medical equipment, wind power, automobile production lines, hybrid vehicles, water conservancy, and rail transportation, but the application rate is low.
Eltra encoders are divided into absolute and incremental types. Currently, absolute encoders are priced approximately four times higher than incremental encoders. In the domestic market, 70% of applications utilize the relatively economical incremental encoders, primarily in industries such as packaging, textiles, and elevators, where only speed measurement and absolute position measurement requirements are low. However, in high-precision machinery and heavy industries like steel, ports, and cranes, where higher accuracy is required, absolute encoders are more commonly used. In these heavy industrial applications, the harsher working conditions necessitate higher requirements for encoder shock and vibration resistance.
With increasing automation in machinery, the application areas of encoders are expanding. Customers are no longer satisfied with encoders simply converting physical rotational signals into electrical signals; they demand higher integration, greater durability, and richer interface options to enable more intelligent devices.
