Advantages of ATOS Cartridge Valves

1. Cartridge components are standardized; several cartridge cone valve units can be combined to form a composite valve.

2. High flow capacity, especially suitable for high-flow applications. The maximum diameter of the cartridge cone valve can reach 250mm, and the flow rate can reach 10000l/min.

3. Simple structure, easy to manufacture, reliable operation, and not prone to clogging.

4. Good sealing performance and low leakage.

5. Fast action speed because it cuts off the oil circuit through cone surface sealing; the oil circuit is immediately reconnected as soon as the valve core is slightly lifted. In addition, the valve core stroke is shorter and lighter than that of a spool valve. Therefore, it is highly responsive and particularly suitable for high-speed opening applications.

6. Multi-functional, it facilitates the standardization, serialization, and generalization of hydraulic components and oil systems, simplifying the system.

7. Different diameter cone valves can be configured according to different inlet and outlet flow rates, while spool valves must be selected based on the larger of the inlet and outlet flow rates.

8. Significantly, compared to an equivalent spool valve, a cartridge valve with the same diameter has a significantly reduced size and weight, and the effect is more pronounced with larger flow rates.

Operating States of a Cartridge Valve Unit: Let the pressures at ports A, B, and x be pA, pB, and px, respectively, and their effective areas be AA, AB, and Ax, respectively. Let the return spring force at the upper end of the valve core be Ft. When pxAx + Ft > pAAA + pBAB, the valve is closed; when pxAx + Ft ≤ pAAA + pBAB, the valve is open.

In actual operation, the force on the valve core is controlled by the oil flow method at port x.

When x returns to the oil tank, the valve is open;

When x is connected to the inlet port, the valve is closed.

A valve that changes the oil flow method at a port is called a pilot valve.

Applications of Cartridge Valves:

A three-way valve consists of two directional valve assemblies connected in parallel, forming one pressure port, one working port, and one return port. The number of operating states of a three-way cartridge valve depends on the number of operating positions of the pilot directional valve.

A four-way valve consists of two three-way valves connected in parallel.

The pilot valve can be a three-position four-way directional valve, see animation. The pilot valve can also be two 2-position 4-way directional valves or four 2-position 3-way directional valves, as shown in the animation.
