An ATOS amplifier is a device that amplifies the voltage or power of an input signal. It consists of vacuum tubes or transistors, a power transformer, and other electrical components. It is used in various devices such as communications, broadcasting, radar, television, and automatic control.
ATOS Amplifier Basic Structure:
The ATOS amplifier takes the signal to be measured as input, amplifies it, and then filters it with a bandpass filter. This signal is then combined with a reference signal and input to a multiplier. The result is then filtered by a low-pass filter before being output.
ATOS Amplifier Main Principle:
An ATOS lock-in amplifier is essentially an analog Fourier transform. The output of the lock-in amplifier is a DC voltage, proportional to the amplitude of a specific frequency (parameter input frequency) in the input signal. Other frequency components in the input signal do not contribute to the output voltage.
Two sinusoidal signals, both 1Hz in frequency and 90 degrees out of phase, multiplied together by a multiplier, result in a sinusoidal signal with a DC bias.
Multiplying a 1Hz signal and a 1.1Hz signal by a multiplier results in a modulated signal with a sinusoidal profile and a DC bias of 0.
ATOS amplifiers only produce a DC bias at the multiplier output for signals with the same frequency as the reference signal*. Other signals produce AC signals at the output. If a low-pass filter is added to the multiplier output, all AC components are filtered out, leaving a DC component that is simply proportional to the amplitude of the specific frequency component in the input signal.
ATOS Amplifier Main Applications
ATOS amplifiers are primarily used to detect weak signals with very low signal-to-noise ratios. Even if the useful signal is submerged in noise, or even if the noise signal is much stronger than the useful signal, as long as the frequency of the useful signal is known, its amplitude can be accurately measured.
