SEL products are composed of highly integrated, bus-less microcontrollers, high-precision current and voltage transformers, high-insulation-strength output intermediate relays, and high-reliability switching power supply modules. Microprocessor-based protection devices are primarily used in power plants, substations, and distribution stations with voltage levels of 110kV and below, and can also be used for voltage and current protection and control in some systems with voltage levels between 70V and 220V.
Advantages of American SEL microcomputer protection devices:
Product features: ultra-thin size, powerful functions, excellent workmanship, beautiful appearance, and high cost performance. Nanjing Dongzi microcomputer protection devices have the characteristics of high integration, complete protection configuration, strong anti-interference ability, low power consumption, and resistance to harsh environments. They are particularly suitable for installation on KYN-28 medium-voltage switchgear, ring network switchgear, and various box-type substations, and can also be installed in centralized panels.
Features of American SEL microcomputer protection devices:
In addition to the advantages of microcomputer protection mentioned above, American SEL microcomputer protection devices have the following characteristics compared with similar products:
(1) Complete range: The microcomputer protection devices have a particularly complete range of products, which can meet the various protection requirements of various equipment in various types of substations, which greatly facilitates the design of substations and computer networking. (2) The hardware utilizes the latest chips, enhancing technological sophistication. The CPU is an 80C196KB chip, employing 14-bit A/D conversion. It features up to 24 analog input circuits. The acquired data is processed using a DSP signal processing chip, employing high-speed Fourier transform to obtain the fundamental to 8th harmonic frequencies. Special software automatic correction ensures high measurement accuracy. A multi-CPU system is constructed by using dual-port RAM and CPU for data conversion, with communication via a CAN bus. It features high communication speed (up to 100MHz, typically operating at 80 or 60MHz) and strong anti-interference capabilities. On-site observation and setting of various protection modes and parameters are conveniently achieved through the keyboard and LCD display unit.
(3) The hardware design employs special isolation and anti-interference measures in the power supply, analog inputs, digital inputs and outputs, and communication interfaces, resulting in strong anti-interference capabilities. Besides centralized panel mounting, it can be directly installed on switch cabinets. (4) The software is feature-rich. In addition to various measurement and protection functions, it can perform fault recording (1-second high-speed fault recording and 9-second dynamic fault recording), harmonic analysis, and low-current grounding line selection functions by cooperating with a host computer.
(5) It can use RS232 and CAN communication methods, supports multiple remote transmission protocols, and is convenient for networking with various computer management systems.
(6) It adopts a wide-temperature-range background 240×128 large-screen LCD display, which is easy to operate and aesthetically pleasing.
(7) It has high integration, small size, and light weight, making it easy to install in centralized panels or distributed on switch cabinets.

Overview of USA SEL Microcomputer Protection:
Featured Applications
Monitoring Transformer Life Trajectory: Transformers use the IEEE c57.91 Life Loss - 1995 thermal model for various winding configurations (including three single-phase transformers). Directly measure ambient and maximum oil temperature using a resistance temperature detector (RTD) or thermocouple (TC) input card. Monitor the outputs of both digital and analog sensors, such as oil level and pressure.
Increase system awareness beyond basic metering such as voltage and current measurements. The SEL-2414 provides metrics such as maximum/minimum metering, demand and peak demand, and energy data. Thermal model reports allow you to accurately trend transformer loads and correlate data with other system parameters. Use instrumentation data to better manage your assets and plan for future development.
Manage and protect critical assets – Manage and protect critical substation assets and integrate transformer thermal through-fault monitoring. Assert alarms based on transformer thermal conditions or other monitored conditions.
Transformer and fan control – Control loads using LTCs in a wide variety of applications, from distribution transformers to large autotransformers (see references). Furthermore, exercise transformer cooling fans to eliminate maintenance surprises under critical load conditions. Control fan banks separately to balance cooling duty cycles and increase the life of the cooling system. Implement LTC and fan control design templates in the SELerator Hedge SEL-5030 software.
